Every year our Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Team take on an epic challenge to raise money for a charity of their choice.
This year, the team chose to support Evelina London Children’s Charity, a charity that provides compassionate care for children, young people and their families. Every year more than 104,000 children and young people experience the wonderful warmth of Evelina London, so the MHFA Team felt it was only right to help them with their mission.
The challenge that the MHFA Team set themselves this year was to complete 40km across a walk, swim and a cycle across London, dubbed the Urban Triathlon. The team started out in Hammersmith, walking south to the river and following it all the way to Westminster Bridge where they stopped off to visit Evelina London Children’s Hospital and meet some of the fantastic staff that work there. From there, the team headed over to Hyde Park, where some opted to do a 15km cycle ride around the dedicated cycle route, or choose to swim in the infamous Serpentine Lake. Then finally, it was the home stretch, walking back to the Fleet Street office, greeted with some well-earned food and drinks.
On the day, the team were faced with torrential rain, gale force winds and even thunder and lightning making an appearance, as if the challenge wasn’t hard enough already. But regardless of Mother Nature making it as hard as possible, the team still managed to get the challenge done and make it back in good time.
Here are some pictures from the day:
Speaking on the event, Olivia-Georgia Bartlett, the Community Fundraising Lead from Evelina London Children’s Charity said: “It’s been wonderful to see the emap team put so much heart into supporting Evelina London Children’s Charity and watching the sea of Evelina London T-Shirts walking over Westminster Bridge. Thank you to everyone involved, these vital funds raised will support children and their families when they need it the most.”
Huge well done to everyone on the team for managing to complete this mammoth task and raising some much-needed funds along the way. The target for the day was to raise £2,000 for Evelina London Children’s Charity and we’re so close to hitting that target.
