Construction News is one of the oldest trade magazines in the UK, scrutinising a sector that employs more than 3 million people -8% of the UK workforce. We are looking for a news editor to lead the ongoing delivery of our award-winning news content across web and print.
You will be either:
– An experienced news editor looking for a new challenge
– A senior reporter with a track record of breaking exclusive news, ready to make a step up
This is a fast-paced, rewarding role spanning legal, financial and policy news affecting UK construction firms. You need to be able to work quickly to find the news from a range of on-diary and off-diary sources.
You will manage two news reporters, helping their development and setting them an example by landing major sector scoops.
Key responsibilities:
- Organise the gathering of news leads from off-diary sources and find exclusive angles from on-diary sources
- Allocate and write news stories to tight deadlines for our daily news bulletin and print magazine
- Tackle the first edit of news material
- Maintain the news diary of industry events and announcements
- Manage your direct reports and guide their development
- Write and originate ideas for regular long-form investigations and features
- Contribute to CN’s live events and webinars
- Build and maintain senior industry contacts, attending industry events both in
Skills and experience:
- Writing/editing news material to a high standard
- Tackling multiple tasks simultaneously to meet tight deadlines
- Applying media law judgements to news stories – in particular libel and contempt of court
